When plants talk to each other
For the March issue of bild der wissenschaft on the topic of “The intelligence of plants”, I contributed both the cover motif and a double-page infographic. For the cover image, I modeled a brain as a treetop in 3D. The infographic shows, in a mix of 3D, photography and graphics, how cleverly plants communicate: From the root system to the leaves – plants even “talk” to each other with the help of fungi (the so-called mycorrhizal network). They can even warn each other of predators and thus ward off nibbling insects and the like.
