From wafers that grow
In collaboration with the magazine bild der wissenschaft, I made this film for the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems and the company NexWafe . It explains a special process that can be used to produce wafers in the future – the thin silicon plates that make up solar cells. The researchers from Freiburg have developed a method in which wafers are deposited directly from the gas phase. This so-called “kerfless wafering” saves a lot of material and energy, which represents a great opportunity for photovoltaic companies.
Concept and co
I produced the film myself – from the initial concept and shooting on location to the editing, animation and soundtrack. The music is by Martin Köhlerschmidt, who composed and recorded it especially for the film.
