Lecture “Design meets Science” at the TU Darmstadt
How good science communication succeeds
On February 1, 2017, I visited the Technical University of Darmstadt to give a talk about my work at the interface between design and science. In just under an hour, I first explained the basics of science communication to the students and then familiarized them with the basic rules of design.
With the help of a number of inspiring examples from visual science communication – divided into the various stylistic devices that can be used – I showed the young scientists how they can communicate their research to their target group in an understandable, original and accurate way.
The whole thing was initiated by Junior-GBM Darmstadt, a community of interested and committed Bachelor and Master students from the Biology and Biomolecular Engineering degree programs. Many thanks to Hanna Frühauf, who suggested me as a speaker! She was one of “my” scholarship holders who took part in my workshop during the Cultural Academy Weimar 2016.
I was very pleased with the lively interest in my lecture and I hope that I was able to give one or two people some valuable ideas to take away with them!
