Useful things made from crystals

The fact that crystals are not only annoying in the form of limescale, but can also be useful for research, is illustrated in my two illustrations for the Daily Life & Research section of PSI magazine. While limescale crystals are responsible for the stubborn water stains in our washbasins, proteins can also be built into crystals. Once arranged as crystals, proteins can be X-rayed and analyzed, which would not be possible without the crystal arrangement.
