Science Festival EFFEKTE Karlsruhe / Lecture Daniela Leitner
Happy Birthday, Karlsruhe!
The city of Karlsruhe turned 300 years old in 2015 – an anniversary that was celebrated with a huge summer of festivals. One of the festivals was the science festival EFFEKTE, which took place from June 27 to July 2, 2015.
As I studied at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design, I have this city to thank for launching my professional career – so I was all the more pleased to be part of the science festival as part of the Science Showroom, which was organized by Philipp Schrögel. For two hours on an extremely sunny Sunday, June 28, the audience was able to listen to completely different presentations on the topic of science.
My presentation
In the midst of a breathtaking backdrop on the large pavilion stage in the palace park, I was able to present the history of light based on my book Als das Licht laufen lernte/When the light learned to walk (and thus also my own story of how I came to science in the first place …).
The day was really something very special for me: I had never stood on a stage to give a presentation before – and certainly not on such a big stage and in front of such a large audience! After I had been expertly wired for sound, we got started – and it was a lot of fun! The atmosphere was just as pleasant as the weather: the audience, the organizing team and my fellow speakers – I will always have extremely positive memories of everyone and am still very happy that I was able to be there!
