When the light learned to walk
The “ultimate adulation” by Harald Lesch
How it all began …
I presented this video to my professors at the end of my diploma examination at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design in February 2012. As I had chosen a completely unrelated subject, it was imperative that a real professional proofread the content of my diploma thesis Als das Licht laufen lernte. I am still very pleased that I was able to get Harald Lesch to do this! I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the entire ZDF team from the Leschs Kosmos program for their great support during the video shoot!
From the detachable book series to the real book
Since I produced the very first version of my diploma thesis in the outstandingly high edition of 4 copies on my own, I had to split it up into several bites due to the high number of pages. At the time, my thesis had 1108 pages and consisted of 9 individual books with slipcases:
When the publisher C. Bertelsmann decided to publish my work some time after my diploma examination (my joy was enormous!!!), I finally turned the book series into a real book and was able to reduce the number of pages to 864 with a few typographical tricks. Still quite a lot, but the “small” history of the universe is pretty huge!

After that, nothing was the same for me: I enjoyed this immersion in the previously completely foreign world of science so much that I have since completely shifted my focus to visual science communication.
